Getting Down To Business

So since I’ve left college I’ve been setting up my own business with great help and assistance from MAD Creative. Working with them has been brilliant, they’ve managed to build a perfect website for me which I’m pleased to say is now up and running! If you would like to take a look you are welcome to, just click on the link: www.mbcoombesphotography.com They have also designed a logo, business cards, flyers, letter heads, compliment slips the lot!

Everything you need to promote a business. And it’s been very successful too! I have worked for some lovely clients who have lead me to work in such interesting places that I never would of imagined going to. I definitely couldn’t of wished for a better job than this.

If you go onto my website you will also notice that there is a shop, there is nothing on there at the moment but in the near future I will be selling greeting cards, calendars and other gifts so keep an eye out!

Thanks for reading and best wishes to those who are also starting up.

Success!

Recently I have been working for FrancisKnight and the Arts council on a project called The Rise of Maidstone United. The project is about the history of the football club, trying to bring together the library and it’s archives with Maidstone United, celebrating the new and once lost home of the football team through literature, spoken words, performance and images.

I got to know about this project through my tutors of my college course (media) who are very encouraging and supportive of their students and so told my class about the opportunity to be taught by a professional photographer working on this project and if our photo’s were good enough would get used!

I naturally went for it and got to know and get along with the photographer, Ed Thompson, very well! He taught me a lot about portraiture and how to communicate with the fans and people in general. To keep an eye out for any action or anything out of the ordinary, how to get the best shots and really getting in there!

I’ve never really been very confident so this was a big push for me and it really helped.

After a couple of weeks working with him I was able to be independent, rushing on to the pitch on match day ready to take photo’s of the cheerleads doing their show dance as well as the players/teams making their way onto the pitch, I felt like a proper press photographer! running around, crouching, getting right up close to them, getting in the best positions for the perfect shots!

Ed presented my photo’s to FrancisKnight who highly approved and said they would like to put my photo’s up on their website! I was thrilled!

And here they are: http://www.francisknight.co.uk/projects/mariacoombes/theriseofmaidstoneunited/

MAD Creative (Midkents in-house design agency) are designing promotional material for this project and have asked if they could also use my photos! They are planning on creating everything from beer mats, posters, brochures, a website, to a Facebook page!

It doesn’t stop there. It gets better….

Next thing I know my tutor asks if I wouldn’t mind being interviewed about me and my photography and how well I did with at MUFC , not knowing that it was actually for an article to be put in the KM website together with possibly the newspaper :O I couldn’t believe it, I feel/felt so proud that theres an article written about me and that my photography’s starting to get known!

Here is the article: http://www.kentnews.co.uk/news/capturing_maidstone_united_s_rise_back_to_glory_1_3636767

FrancisKnight has also contacted me and asked if I would do more work for them through the year. SUCCESS!

How I became and wanted to be a photographer

My interest in photography began when I received my first digital camera by my parents at 13 years old for my birthday, it was from then on that I started to gradually get more and more interested in photography, being able to look at beautiful or simple things from unusual angles making them look spectacular or causing you to look at something differently.
I went to school at Valley Park where I studied IT, Hospitality and Catering and of course photography. By the time I was 16 I had my own Cannon DSLR D1000 as well as a telescopic lens which inspired me to focus on wildlife, especially birds.
I then managed to get work experience at a local photography studio ‘Life Photography’ here is where I learnt most about customer serves, to get the best cheerful and loving shots of families and couples.
I’ve also studied Creative Media at Midkent College Maidstone where my interests and understanding of photography broadened, here is where my work began to get noticed after taking part in more work experiences and projects.
Now instead of just being interested in wildlife, after doing and studying more, I also do a lot of event photography. Not so much weddings but public events, parties, sport things like that.
One of my hobbies are motorbikes, above all I love Harley Davidsons this is started after my Dad bought his own and ever since then I’ve loved them and so thats another topic I like to photograph, motorbikes!
If you are interested in taking a look at my work then you are more than welcome to check out my Facebook photography page as I have not yet set up a website.

Enjoy!

Please take some time in flicking through… when I actually start to upload my images taken from college. Thank you!

(by the way this is just a tester at the moment)

Hello!

Hello lovely people!

This is my first post, in the middle of learning how to use this site during my media course at Midkent college. Have a nice day! 😀
